Zagreb sets a new standard with introduction of video support in university futsal

Zagreb continues to lead the way in innovation when it comes to university futsal. After pioneering the inclusion of women’s futsal at the university level back in 2010, the organizers has now introduced another significant advancement — video support (VS).
This technological upgrade is implemented during the final two days of the European Universities Futsal Championship 2025, making its debut in the semifinal matches. The system will also be used in the upcoming third-place matches and the finals.
But what exactly is video support?
VS is a tool designed to assist referees in making more accurate decisions during critical moments of the game. By allowing the review of video footage, it helps ensure that calls on the court are fair, consistent, and transparent.
The introduction of this system marks an important step forward for university sport, underlining Zagreb’s continued role as a leader in both innovation and organization on the European stage.
As we look ahead to the final matches of the championship, all eyes will not only be on the players — but also on the future of university futsal, shaped right here in Zagreb.
