Competition Venues: EUSA European University Futsal Championship 2025

The EUSA European University Futsal Championship 2025 will be held across four of Zagreb’s most iconic indoor sports venues, each chosen for its history, atmosphere, and excellent facilities. These venues are known for hosting major sporting events in the city and are ready to provide an incredible experience for both athletes and spectators during the championship.

 


1. Dražen Petrović Sports Hall (Basketball Center "Cibona")

 

 

  • Location: In the heart of Zagreb, this iconic venue is named after the legendary Croatian basketball player Dražen Petrović.

  • Capacity: The sports hall has a seating capacity of 5,048 spectators, making it ideal for hosting major matches and events.

  • History and Usage: Officially opened on June 30, 1987, the venue was initially built in preparation for the 1987 Summer Universiade and was originally known as the Cibona Sports Center. On October 4, 1993, it was renamed to honor Dražen Petrović, one of Croatia’s greatest athletes and a global basketball legend. The hall is primarily used by KK Cibona, as well as KK Dinamo Zagreb and KK Hermes Analitica for their games and training.

  • Features and Events: While primarily used for basketball games and training sessions, the hall is also a popular venue for cultural events, particularly concerts, given its large capacity and excellent acoustics.

2. Trešnjevka Sports Hall (“Kutija Šibica”)

 

    • Location: Situated in the Trešnjevka district, this venue is affectionately known as "Kutija Šibica" (The Matchbox).

    • History and Usage: The Trešnjevka Sports Hall is home to multiple prominent sports clubs, including the handball team RK Zagreb, which has twice won the European Championship, the women's handball team ŽRK Trešnjevka, basketball teams KK Zrinjevac and ŽKK Trešnjevka (formerly Montmontaža), as well as boxing clubs BK Metalac and BK Kralj Tomislav. Besides being used by these clubs, the venue is also frequently utilized by local recreational athletes and companies during available time slots.

      • Total Area: The facility covers a total area of 4916 m².

      • Main Multipurpose Hall: The large multipurpose hall is 1100 m² with seating capacity for approximately 1000 spectators.

      • Uses: The venue is versatile, used for:

        • Sports and Recreation: Handball, futsal, basketball.

        • Other Sports: Wrestling, judo, karate, taekwondo, and more (requiring the installation of specific equipment).

        • Events: Seminars, conferences, panels, concerts, performances, etc.

3. Sports Hall Sutinska Vrela

 

    • Location: Located in the western part of Zagreb, this venue provides excellent facilities for futsal, combining modern amenities with a welcoming atmosphere.

    • History and Usage: The Sutinska Vrela Sports Hall was built in preparation for the 1987 Universiade and was initially designed primarily for volleyball competitions.

    • Capacity: The large hall features 1300 seats for spectators and includes spaces for athletes and journalists, providing a professional and accommodating environment.

    • Total Area: The main sports area spans 4011.55 m².

    • Features:

      • Sports and Activities: The hall hosts a wide variety of sports, including handball, futsal, basketball, volleyball, martial arts, badminton, dance sports, table tennis, archery, and aerobics. It also includes a climbing wall and is frequently used for cultural events.

      • Additional Facilities: The Sutinska Vrela complex also includes a judo hall, a training hall for cultural and artistic societies, and a wellness center, providing a diverse range of facilities for both sports and recreational use.

4. Sports Hall Peščenica

 

    • Location: Situated in the Peščenica district, this multi-purpose hall was opened in 1987 and serves as a versatile venue for sports, recreation, and events.

    • History and Usage: The Peščenica Sports Hall is used by a variety of prominent sports clubs, including the basketball team ŽKK Medveščak, karate club KK Tempo, wrestling club HK Zagreb, and volleyball team OK Dinamo. It is also used for local leagues, school and university competitions, and recreational activities by many citizens and companies in Zagreb.

    • Regular Users: The hall is also used by School for Graphics, Design, and Media Production and Ruđer Bošković Technical School for their physical education classes, highlighting its educational and community-oriented function.

    • Total Area: The facility covers a total area of 3418 m².

      • Main Multipurpose Hall: The main hall is 1337 m² and can be divided into three sections, with seating for approximately 600 spectators using temporary stands.

        • Uses:

          • Sports and Recreation: Futsal, basketball, and other sports.

          • Other Sports: Wrestling, judo, karate, taekwondo, and more.

          • Events: Seminars, conferences, panels, concerts, performances, etc.

      • The facility also includes two smaller halls along with office spaces for various sports organizations.

Training Venues

 

 

  • Faculty of Kinesiology: Training sessions for participating teams will be held at the Faculty of Kinesiology in Zagreb. These facilities are designed to provide the best possible environment for athletes to prepare, equipped with the necessary amenities to support high-performance training.
  • Proximity to Accommodation: The training venues are located within walking distance from the main accommodation areas, ensuring that athletes have easy and quick access to training sessions without unnecessary travel.

  • 2 training venues: There are 2 training venues: KIF1 (full sized sports hall) and KIF2 (basketball sized sports hall). On training days, competition venues will be able for trainings.
