From first whistle to final cheer: Wrapping up EUC Futsal 2025

The European Universities Futsal Championship 2025 officially came to a end on July 25 with a vibrant Closing Ceremony held at the iconic Dražen Petrović Sports Hall in Zagreb, Croatia.

 

Athletes, volunteers, organisers and fans gathered in a joyful celebration of sporting excellence, unity and friendship. This year’s event brought together over 600 participants from 30 universities across 16 countries, highlighting the true spirit of European sport and collaboration.

 


Final Matches Recap

 

In the men’s final, Azerbaijan Sport Academy delivered an unforgettable performance, claiming the gold with a dominant 7:2 win over University of Valencia.


The women’s final saw an exciting matchup between National Pedagogical Dragomanov University and University of Barcelona, with the Ukrainian team taking the title after a 4:2 victory.

The men’s final was officiated by Damian Grabowski (POL) as 1st referee, Daniel Matkovic (SUI) as 2nd referee, Sławomir Steczko (POL) as 3rd referee, Arttu Kyynarainen (FIN) as 4th referee, and Cedric Pelissier (FRA) as timekeeper.

 


In the women’s final, referees were Chiara Perona (ITA), Marijana Orešić (CRO), Annamaria Tolnay (HUN), Monika Czudzinowicz (POL), with Jasmina Mickoska (SRB) as timekeeper.

 

 

Words of Gratitude and Farewell

 

During the ceremony, Haris Pavletić, President of the Croatian Academic Sports Federation and 1st Vice President of EUSA, addressed the participants and praised the high level of competition, fair play and organisation shown throughout the event.

 

 

The President of the Zagreb Academic Sports Federation, Davor Pavlović, also took the floor to thank all teams and volunteers for making the championship memorable and extended best wishes for a safe journey home to all delegations.

 

 

Community and Culture

 

A dedicated team of over 36 local and international volunteers ensured the smooth running of the event. Their efforts were instrumental and deeply appreciated by organisers and athletes alike. Beyond the matches, participants enjoyed a lively atmosphere around Zagreb, with cultural side events, social gatherings at Club Roko and the city’s warm hospitality adding to the championship’s unique identity. One volunteer shared: “Being part of something so international and full of positive energy was truly unforgettable. I met incredible people, made new friendships, shared so many laughs, and got to do something I genuinely love. Even as a volunteer, I learned so much and felt like I was part of something really big.”

 

What’s Next?

 

The symbolic passing of the EUSA flag to Spain marked the official conclusion of this year’s tournament and a warm welcome to the next host. The next edition of the European Universities Futsal Championship will take place in Madrid, Spain. University teams from across Europe are invited to join the next celebration of sport and unity.
